I hope you enjoy that CD of Curro, Miki. I wonder if they filmed him when he was really good. Like you, I saw him a few times--once he tried hard and even cut an ear in Madrid. He could never kill and lost all his ear options at the end of the faena. He has been around forever--Michener in his IBERIA already talked about him as a kind of institution. There were several scaredy-cat toreros like him in history. The most famous was Rafael El Gallo, who made everyone laugh with his "espantás". If he thought the bull looked at him wrong he would run completely across the ring and jump over the fence, though the bull wasn't even after him.

Thank you so much, 100swallows, to put this great post about a bullfighter on a Sunday! I almost feel as if I were going to a corrida today!
And you know what? I have a series of DVDs, called "Toreros para la Historia", and one of them features Curro Romero. I haven't seen it yet, but I will, this afternoon, around 6 PM...
I have seen Curro Romero live, on different occasions, surely in Benidorm, but also in Alicante and Valencia, I think. Unfortunately It is a long time ago, and I was very young, and I have no memory of him personally. This might be a clue that he hadn't uncorked the little bottle as I saw him... :-)
